Blaster Rifle

"Only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise."

This is my custom Star Wars-inspired blaster rifle. It was made using an electronic water gun I found on clearance at Walmart. The main colors of black and white were chosen because the story behind this blaster is that it was originally a First Order blaster that a Resistance member got ahold of. This Resistance member added the copper accents to the rifle, giving it a less militaristic look and modifying the blaster to provide different firing modes.

The black and white parts of the blaster are painted using a mix of spray paint and brushed-on acrylic paint. The copper accents are painted with a combination of spray paint and copper Rub 'n Buff. This is the first project I’ve used Rub 'n Buff on, and I am very pleased with the results. Unfortunately, I didn’t sand down the plastic enough for the paint to adhere properly in some spots. As a result, no matter how many times I tried to touch it up, some areas of the rifle still show the original blue or green plastic peeking through.

The blaster is powered by a Pi Pico and an I2S 3W amplifier. It runs very similar code and has essentially the same setup as my original blaster. The main difference is that this blaster rifle features three distinct firing modes, which are controlled by a potentiometer connected to the Pi Pico. The water gun has a built-in battery pack which is part of the reason I bought it. However, it housed four AA batteries which has more voltage than the Pi Pico can take. To run the Pico on only three AA batteries I used a 3D printed AA dummy cell which can be found here: link.
